Green Initiatives
At Boulder Self Storage, we value the environment and believe that taking steps to reduce our environmental footprint is good for business and good for the earth. We chose to take responsibility for our own environmental impact by installing on-site solar panels and purchasing renewable energy credits (RECs). Our offset includes 100,000 kWh, representing 100% of our total electricity consumption.
In 2011, our on-site solar production and purchases of RECs have a collective annual impact that is equal to:
- Planting 665 mature trees*
- Not driving 201,265 miles a year in an average car**
- Not burning 79,933 lbs. of coal

How RECs Work
It’s impossible to pipe renewable energy from wind farms and other renewable energy projects directly to our facility. However, through the purchase of RECs we’re able to ensure that the electricity we use gets replaced back onto the main electricity grid with renewable energy, which makes the energy mix cleaner for everyone.
Our Commitment to Sustainability
By purchasing renewable energy credits, Boulder Self Storage is making a commitment to sustainability. Our commitment helps:
- Save our natural resources
- Support farmers and ranchers who make money from leasing their land
- Reduce our CO2 emissions and cleans the air for everyone
- Increase the demand for new projects
- Reduce our dependence on fossil fuels
- Generate awareness for supporting clean technology projects
